 There are two categories of fire-resistant glazing: F and G, the difference being the level of thermal insulation. All glazing must be capable of preventing fire and smoke from entering the room enclosed by the glass for a certain length of time, for example 30 or 90 minutes. F-class glazing must also demonstrate heat-shielding qualities, i.e. both sides of the glass must be impervious to radiant heat.
F glazing is therefore most commonly found where emergency exits and escape routes should remain accessible for as long as possible.
